Latest Rugby Update – July 2020

As restrictions start to ease we are pleased to annonce Senior training sessions  resumed Tuesday 14th July.  We are following strict guidance provided by the RFU and have prepared our own Return to Play policy.

Our 1st XV will be playing Level 5 rugby and the competition models will be based on three potential start windows depending on when it becomes safe to return to playing. Leagues for our other senior teams will be confirmed shortly. The earliest start  for our 1st XV league (SW Premier) will be October 2020 with an extension to end of May 2021.  The RFU has a produced a playing model plan which can be found here

This is subject to the RFU Roadmap reaching Level F, we are currently at B – Roadmap

For Age Grade rugby, playing will only commence once we reach Level F and as with seniors, an extension to the season will be allowed.

The governing body for our Wheelchair Rugby team (GBWR) have not approved team training at this stage, however teams can follow Government guidelines and keep fitness and mental health well being outside.  GBWR continue to work on guidance plans and hope that indoor training can return in September.  More details can be found here.

England Touch has set out a six-stage Return to Play to take the current 'Train' stage all the way up to the full National Touch Series and Nationals. As it currently stands we are at Level 2, at Level 4, Local fixtures can commence, with Level 5 Regional fixtures permitted. More details can be found here

Naturally, this is still a work in progress, nonetheless a positive move and now we have something to work with to help our community club bounce back and return to playing grassroots rugby.

Thank you for your support and patience as we work towards our new normal.
