Youth round up

On Sunday there was lots of great rugby being played from the astro pitches where some of the under 6's still managed to find a small amount of mud, to some very muddy children playing on the grass.

Under 6

A change of playing location on Sunday, the dry astro pitch brought out some fine running rugby which was a good advert for all the weeks of skills and drills the guys have been performing of late. It was very pleasing to see all the guys contributing to the session with several guys showing real progress.

Being the last week of the January, its Players of the Month time, so a big well done to Leo Morison and Jacob Trivett for excellent skills on the rugby field whilst importantly demonstrating key values of rugby throughout January. The awards were presented by Mark Norton from Composite Profiles, so a huge thanks to Mark and also all of our age grade sponsors (Patrick Fraser, David McDonald & Sam Morton, Stuart Gallacher) for their continued support.

As usual a big well done to our weekly medal winners across the reception and year 1 age groups, again a reward for progress seen over the past few weeks but especially during this weeks session.

We suspect we'll be back to more familiar surroundings of a muddy rugby pitch next week but lets not a little mud get in the way of the excellent weekly progress the group is showing.

Under 8

Sunday saw a great Under 8 training session. Moving to the AstroTurf worked wonders for the footwork and we saw some great running rugby and support play.

The coaches have been looking to mix up the training sessions lately with a real focus on different physical skills and decision-making which will feed into the children's match play.
This week after a warm-up including gorillas and crocodiles we moved to a session looking to emphasize movement into space, quick thinking and decisiveness.
Break out sessions in truth focussed on team-work in defence, ball handling and movement as a team.
We then rounded off with a few games of pretty dynamic rugby putting the skills learned into practice.

As coaches, we are really looking to incorporate the core values into each of the sessions- Teamwork, Respect Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship and appreciate the support the parents provide in this respect wither their kids.

Many of the Under 8's coaches have been undertaking further coaching qualifications recently, and we are sure this will continue to bring fresh ideas to the sessions to keep it fun while developing the skills the children need.

Finally, we announced the Under 8's player of the month, Oscar Heywood. All of the coaches recognised the progression in confidence and skills that Oscar has displayed recently. He has developed significantly recently, being more vocal on the pitch and this has been recognised by his peers. The age group has a range of personalities and skill levels and it's great to see development across all the children. Keep it up!

Under 10

Sunday saw a great session coaching the under 10's. We are blessed with strength and depth and varying ability. Advice to the players this week was 'Remember as a player whether you are on the Motorway, A or B road or Country lane, we will all meet at the same place! You will get where you want with the support of your coaches and parents.

With thanks to our partners for contributing to our success

Really good turnout for Sunday morning training and really good to see some new and old faces.

A great training session produced some fantastic rugby with lots of great support play and offloads. We saw really good work going forward from the group but Attacker of the week was awarded to Hilton for his excellent work in Mauls. It was really good to see Stanley return to playing today and was awarded Defender of the week for great technique in the tackles, and a good all round solid performance

U15s vs Weymouth 28th January

Bournemouth U15s played their second fixture this season versus Weymouth and were able to build on their earlier success. The final score of 66-0 was not representative of a hard fought game with both sides showing real passion and skill. Thanks again to our parents and sponsors for their continued support.
