We have a thriving squad of bright, energetic and enthusiastic young girls;
The girls' team is new to Bournemouth Rugby and at present is for girls aged between 10 - 18 years old. Girls younger than this can participate in the mixed mini rugby sessions which many do. Whilst the girls team is building up all age groups will be training together splitting into smaller groups when required. As we grow in size moving forwards we will look to have a number of girls groups in various age bands.
Over the season we will be training on Sunday mornings 10:00 - 12:00 noon and Tuesday evenings 18:30 - 19:45.
Girls aged Under 12 can participate in mixed mini rugby, played within the RFU Continuum. England international Danielle Waterman started playing rugby with her brother at Minehead Barbarians and has now gone on to win more than 50 caps.
The U13 girls’ age band is permitted to include U11s, U12s and U13s girls. The U15 girls’ age band includes U14s and U15s and the U18 girls’ age band is for U16s, U17s and U18s. Click on the following for further information on the regulations on age bands, in particular regulation 15.
When there are not enough girls at one club to make up a team, many areas now have club clusters, where clubs join up for matches. This ensures girls have the opportunity to play regular competitive matches. Almost all counties have girls’ teams and have trials that are open to anyone.
County players are nominated to trial for the RFU Women’s Divisional Programme. Talented players are identified and U15s and U18s are invited into Talent Development Groups. Successful players will have the opportunity to play for the England U20s.
One player who can speak from experience is England international Fran Matthews. Fran was playing for her club and Surrey as a teenager. She was spotted as a talented player and was subsequently invited to an elite summer camp at Loughborough University. Fran is now playing Premiership rugby for Richmond and striving for further success with England.
TEAMWORK | DISCIPLINE | RESPECT | ENJOYMENT | SPORTSMANSHIP
At Bournemouth Minis we put children at the heart of everything we do and all the decisions we make. We encourage fun on the pitch, through equal opportunity and realistic expectations of our children. We develop children’s confidence and character as players and as people, challenging any behaviour that conflicts with this. In addition, we build the skills of our coaches to provide a safe, healthy, respectful and enjoyable environment for children.
We are also committed to providing equality of opportunity for all of our squad. This means that 'ALL squad members' will get a chance to play matches in mixed ability teams, despite their level of experience - and not just an A-Team.
We welcome new players, no prior experience of playing required.
